Mix up your prints. The failsafe trick is to keep a thread of color throughout the pieces – a hint of blue in this case ties the prints together. Look for similar sized prints in the pieces to maintain balance. Don’t stick to one print motif. Geometric graphics with florals work surprisingly well as do animal prints and stripes (then again, leopard is practically a neutral in my eyes).
Conversely, throw out all the rules, roll around in your favorite mismatched pieces and see what feels right for you!
Add a vintage touch. Extra credit if they are iconic Gucci-esque elements as per the striped elastic belt (an H&M Homme find from a lost decade). If you ARE going to don some actual Gucci items, go for the shoes – specifically the mid heel loafers. Not only are they timeless throwback beauties, but also incredibly comfortable with a hint of collegiate charm.
Don’t be afraid of frills. A little bit of flounce never hurt. If ruffles feel too compromising, tie a silk jaunty foulard around your neck for an impromptu pussy bow. Opt for a pleated skirt over a body-con pencil skirt for twirling credits and an air of nonchalance.
