Are Mid Heels Fashion ROADKILL?
The Mid Heels . Affectionately referred to as frumpy, dowdy or dumpy, has slowly climbed up the echelons of fashion hierarchy claiming its re-affirmed title of “sensible”.
Not achingly cool – sensible, once an offensive name devoid of any style status – seems to be very “of the moment” in these current, pragmatic out of office / work from home times.
Whilst slightly bookish, a block heels yield a balanced look to an ensemble evoking both casual ease as well as an intellectual sheen upon the wearer.
In today’s overtly uncertain times, the mid heel sandals represent a glimmer of our former selves. They are the transition needed from our tired sweatpants and barefoot look, to slowly asserting ourselves to a more pulled together version of ourselves. A strong sturdy heel just adds a certain sartorial cool and gravitas to an otherwise standard look. It says, yes, I am busy and have places to go. But I’m also up for a relaxed latte and a chat.
“The fact that you can dance in them, drink in them, run down a hallway rather than hobble at short notice is all a delightful plus to their casual allure.”
Whilst office life has undoubtedly changed for most of us, the mid heel sandals still represent themselves as the most comfortable work heels to get you through the myriad of roles we now play, even if those are not limited to a solid office environment. Soccer mom anyone? Out of home meetings to replace the drone of the zoom call? Or even the treat of a lunch with the ladies on an otherwise uneventful Tuesday.
These super comfortable heels for women can be paired with every-day jeans and t-shirt instead of default sneakers for a quick pick me up that is both unflinchingly cool, collected and dare we say, practical. A tribute of sorts to your high functioning and competent self. Mixed up with playful socks or in lustrous shades come Fall, mid heels strike an ironic chord to an otherwise somber look that just feels right for our times.
Sensible at the end of the day, just makes sense.
